Societal Wealth Creation

Societal wealth creation is a concept originated by the Wharton School and is unique in its approach to social entrepreneurship. Using entrepreneurship as a weapon to combat social problems in a for-profit model, Wharton’s Snider Entrepreneurial Research Center is testing societal wealth creation theories in actual live case studies throughout the African continent and the world. One example: Prof. MacMillan and his team are assisting an entrepreneur in Africa who has developed customized peanut processing machinery. Their efforts could lead to a profitable business and the introduction of a vital new food staple for thousands or millions.

Through this research as well as via courses, clubs and conferences, students gain a foothold to this emerging and important area of entrepreneurship. Learning opportunities for students interested in societal wealth creation include:
